Julian Assange, WikiLeaks founder, and editor left the public stunned when on December 24, 2017, his Twitter account suddenly disappeared. Astute followers noticed strange behavior with his account when suddenly the number of people he followed vanished then slowly began changing. The account went offline for approximately one hour, returned and then disappeared again until Christmas day. Though the official Julian Assange Twitter account is currently online and active, many people aren’t convinced it is really Julian Assange or a legitimate account.
The main issue is that neither Julian Assange nor Wikileaks has come forward with a statement to explain what happened. Some have suggested that the lack of communication or explanation for the incident is proof that the account is not being maintained by Julian Assange.
Another issue causing many to believe that Assange’s Twitter is no longer maintained by him is the number of people he follows has suddenly changed from one to twenty-five. Though Julian Assange never had the official blue check next to his Twitter profile, he, Wikileaks, and others official accounts have stated that it was his official Twitter. Instead of a blue check, Julian Assange has a blue diamond next to his username.
Not only no official explanation from Assange…………but, this account that supposedly belongs to him…….is now following 25 Twitter accounts instead of just 1….WIKILEAKS. What the hell is going on?

One of Assange’s most recent Tweets was a retweet from Ecuador TV. It was a post that included a statement in Spanish about Julian Assange’s Twitter account being temporarily suspended before being reactivated. Still, the statement did not offer an explanation for why the account disappeared in the first place.
Some users found the retweet suspicious as they questioned why the explanation would come in this format rather than an official statement from Julian Assange or Wikileaks.

Though the truth of what happened remains unknown, many are thanking the Ecuadorian embassy for helping Julian Assange throughout his political exile.
Julian Assange has lived in the Ecuadorian embassy since June 2012.
What do you think happened to Julian Assange’s Twitter account on Christmas Eve and Christmas? Do you believe he deactivated then restored it? Do you think Twitter took it down? Do you believe the restored Twitter account does, in fact, belong to Julian Assange or do you think there is a conspiracy underway?
