As fans know, Joy-Anna Duggar became the mother of a son earlier in the year, and it looks like the labor was extremely hard for her. In PEOPLE’s sneak peek for Counting On, the reality TV star tells all about what she went through, saying: ‘After about 19 hours of labor, the midwife understood that the baby was breech. When they say that a baby is breech, that means its head is turned up, and it’s kind of sitting up in your belly when it’s supposed to be head down.’
The 20-year-old and her husband Austin Forsyth welcomed a baby boy they named Gideon Martyn.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that the first-time parents had already planned a home birth, things did not go as planned.
After being in labor for 19-20 hours, Joy-Anna’s midwife concluded that the infant was a breech.
‘When the midwife came and told us the baby was breech and that we had to go to the hospital, I was discouraged because she had labored for so long and we were hoping that we could have a home birth. But at the same time, I was ready to have this baby. Joy was tired, and I am just: ‘Let’s just do whatever it takes to get the baby here,’ Austin added.
But the young mother’s biggest fear had been having to go through a C-section.
‘Before I went into labor, having a C-section was my greatest fear. That was one of the things I was scared of. I did not want to have to have a C-section. But, by that point, I was just like, ‘Whatever it takes I am ready.’ I was exhausted. I was ready to get the baby here in any way possible.’
