Joss Whedon, the man behind popular television shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., is facing some public relation problems after he supposedly compared First Daughter Ivanka Trump to a dog. The tweet went viral, and critics piled on, but the director of Avengers: Age of Ultron is not backing down. In the era of Donald Trump, doubling down when facing a controversy is the way to go. The only problem is that not everyone can be Trump. And, what if the media got the story wrong.
Whedon, 52, has been a critic of the 45th U.S. president for a very long time, but he may have crossed the line this week. On Tuesday, the filmmaker tweeted: “Hey, keep your eyes on this fucking prize too. He’s a Voldemort in training, & unlike the Pekingese he married under, can play the long game.”
The tweet did not go well with his followers, and some even went as far as saying that it was tainted with antisemitism. Whedon did not directly respond to those charges and instead kept attacking the Trump administration for its lack of depth.

Some people say that Whedon’s tweet was misunderstood and that he was comparing Donald Trump to a Pekingese and not his daughter. Some elements point to this, the phrasing that was used and the features of the Pekingese.
It seems that Whedon is enjoying the controversy because he did not even bother defending himself and let the media run with the negative story when he has a strong defense against the misogyny charge. The director has spent most of his life fighting for feminism, so comparing Ivanka to a dog would have been out of character.
