It has been a month since Counting On star Josiah Duggar married Lauren Swanson, but that doesn’t seem to bother his ex-girlfriend, Marjorie Jackson. So far, Josiah is the only member of the Duggar family to have a courtship that didn’t end with a wedding, and in recent social media posts, Jackson is showing her followers exactly why she didn’t marry into the uber-conservative reality TV family.
While Duggar and Swanson were exchanging vows, Jackson was kayaking in Colorado. And, a week ago, she took an impulsive 48-hour trip to Las Vegas to see her friend Madyson. Jackson posted a pic on Instagram of the two of them standing in front of the famous “Welcome to the Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada” sign, and in the caption, she wrote that she was thankful for her Nevada sister and looking forward to eating “those In-N-Out Burgers that West Coasters rave about.”
But the 20-year-old isn’t finished with her travels. After visiting the Las Vegas replicas of Trevi Fountain and the Eiffel Tower, Jackson said she was ready to see the real versions in New York and Paris.
After her time in Sin City — or as Jackson called it, “Salvation City” — she then headed east to Moab, Utah, where she visited the Arches National Park while rocking tank tops and short shorts.
Duggar courted Jackson back in 2015, but after just four months the two called it quits. In a joint statement, the former couple said that they had enjoyed getting to know each other and building their friendship, but they agreed to end their courtship which they believe was the Lord’s will.
They added that they were thankful for the time they had to get to know each other, and their families would continue to be friends.
Jackson’s travels and her wardrobe are definitely signs that she is enjoying her freedom and taking advantage of the fact that she didn’t marry into the Duggar family. The Counting On clan has a very strict dress code — which means no trendy crop tops, tanks, or shorts — and instead, the girls must always dress modestly. Family matriarch Michelle Duggar once said that the women in the family keep it modest to prevent distractions while courting and to keep the “relationship pure.”
In addition to her tank tops and shorts, Jackson also wore heels and an above-the-knee skirt earlier this year in an April post about her “pretending to sip a delicious hot latte” while wondering when the weather would get warmer, so she could enjoy an iced coffee.
Jackson is also doing something none of the Duggar daughters have attempted — she is going to college. Jackson currently attends John Brown University, and she has also traveled abroad. She has taken trips to El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, and Israel, and she has also visited places closer to home, like New York and Florida.
One year ago today was the official launch date of my coloring devotional, Devoted: A Girl's 31-Day Guide to Good Living with a Great God. ? Through the book and the YouVersion Bible reading plan, it has been such a blessing to be able to share this artistic project with young women in many different parts of the world ~ I think it's amazing how God opens unique doors for each of us to glorify Him. May hearts continue to draw closer to the Lord as the companion, The Devoted Life: A Girl's Guided Creative Devotional Journal, launches THIS DECEMBER ? #thedevotedlife #happybirthdaydevoted
It’s also clear that Jackson is career-driven. She has already written two books and has spent some time working with the charity Compassion International.
Obviously, Marjorie Jackson wasn’t the right fit for Duggar life, but it looks like she is having a blast living life on her own terms.
Catch Josiah Duggar on new episodes of Counting On Monday nights on TLC.
