John Cena Ready To Retire From The WWE Following Brutal Loss?
WWE superstar John Cena shocked fans recently when he suffered a crushing defeat to Roman Reigns at No Mercy , but does that mean the sixteen-time World Champion is ready to call it quits? In a post-match interview, he gave some insight into his future and the possibility of retirement.
“I just think my role is different,” Cena said on RAW Talk . “Regardless of if I have outside opportunities or not… I’m 40 years old, and I have 15 years of track experience here in the WWE and not in a normal level, at an elite level. I don’t know how much longer I can keep it up.”
Cena, 40, is known for taking breaks during the past few years while working on his acting career. He is currently set to appear in Daddy’s Home 2 , Ferdinand , and the Transformer’s spinoff Bumblebee . His frequent absences have led him to be known recently in the WWE as more of a “part-timer.”
However, John Cena is a champion and one of the most famous wrestlers in the world. He has been a central part of the WWE brand for over a decade, and having a new role would mean the end of an era for him and the organization.
Not being the top guy would be a huge change and something that Cena doesn’t appear to be ready for. He has been a staple of the Main Event for years, so switching to a special attraction would be a tough transition, for the wrestler and his fans.
Cena continued to say that it would be difficult to keep going at his current pace, and when he lost to Reigns, it seemed to be a retirement tease. Fans chanted “thank you Cena!” while he gave a curtain call to the Staples Center crowd. He added to the retirement rumor later when he tweeted “#ThankYou.”
Besides possible changes in his professional life, John Cena will also be making a huge change in his personal life.
As fans of Total Bellas know, he proposed to his girlfriend Nikki Bella , 33, earlier this year with a 4.5-carat diamond ring, and the two are planning a wedding for a date that has yet to be revealed.
