Jim Carrey Responds To Wrongful Death Suit - Here's His Claims About Ex-Girlfriend's Mother And Lawyer
The actor is involved in a huge wrongful death lawsuit over the suicide of his ex-lover, Cathriona White in 2015. The late woman’s former husband Mark Burton as well as her mother Brigid Sweetman are the ones who accused Jim Carrey of infecting her with STDs as well as providing White with the drugs that ultimately led to her death.
Now, Carrey has come out to claim that their lawsuit is just an extortion attempt, something he has unfortunately succumbed to before.
According to court documents filed by the comedy actor, White herself, with the help of her estranged husband has threatened to ‘go to the press’ and allege that he infected her with sexually transmitted diseases unless he gave her millions of dollars for her silence.
‘Cat and Marchino knew the claim was false and knew the mere allegation would impact Jim and his career. Rather than engaging in a protracted and expensive public battle, Jim, as many in his position do, succumbed to the demands and privately resolved the issue with Cat and her lawyer,’ Carrey’s lawyer Raymond Boucher stated in the documents.
Jim also added that back when this happened he lived under the impression that Marchino, her lawyer, was exploiting and manipulating White.
Now, however, the actor is determined to not succumb to their extortion attempts and wants to make it very clear that these ‘desperate characters’ did nothing but unearth the truth about the woman he ‘adored.’
Carrey continued by saying that he was blinded by the love he felt for her.
However, despite how she has wronged him in the past, the actor feels empathy and forgives her while trying to focus on enjoying his life.
