Jillian Michaels is on a promo tour where she has stopped by multiple media outlets to talk about her new project. During her appearance on a Buzzfeed digital series, she went after Lizzo.
While speaking about body positivity among celebrities, she took aim at the Juice singer for being obese.
‘Why are we celebrating her body? Why does it matter? Why aren’t we celebrating her music? ‘Cause it isn’t going to be awesome if she gets diabetes,” Michaels shared. “I’m just being honest. I love her music, my kid loves her music, but there’s never a moment when I’m like, ‘I’m so glad she’s overweight.’ Why do I even care? Why is it my job to care about her weight?’
Although some may feel that the celebrity trainer is right, most people are looking at who the criticism is coming from.
For years, Jillian hosted The Biggest Loser where contestants were not only fat-shamed but also forced to lose weight in some of the unhealthiest ways possible in a short amount of time that could have and sometimes did have adverse side effects.
People flocked to social media to defend the musician and slam Michaels.
‘Jillian Michaels was on a show that not only put people through unhealthy diets/workouts to induce RAPID weight (and again, unhealthy) loss, but it resulted in fkin up their metabolism, likely FOREVER,’ one user tweeted.
Another added: ‘I don’t really give two s*** about Jillian Michaels, but we celebrate Lizzo because Lizzo unapologetically celebrates Lizzo and encourages everyone to celebrate themselves, so Jillian can fuck all the way off to whatever washboard ab mountain of misery she sits atop.’
This user brought up the point that Lizzo is a physical performer: ‘Fat musician here, shut the f*** up Jillian. I would love to see you play a two hour flute set w/singing and rapping for a 22 country world tour.’
Jillian echoed her health concerns statement she posted on Instagram and Twitter after what she said went viral.
