For several months, rumors of infidelity have surrounded Counting On stars Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar – thanks in part to his cryptic tweets about adultery – and now some fans are convinced that things aren’t right in the marriage. Is Dillard cheating on his wife, and could the couple be headed for divorce?
Duggar rumors are everywhere on social media, but this one seems to have a bit more merit than most, especially since one of Dillard’s tweets appeared to be a confession on his part. But, the family is pretty good at keeping bad news out of the media, unless someone leaks it against their will (like with the Josh Duggar scandal).
According to The Hollywood Gossip, Dillard’s tweets about adultery subtly placed the blame on his wife, keeping in line with the family’s philosophy on marriage. Michelle Duggar (Jill Duggar’s mom) has famously said that her daughter’s duty is to have sex with their husbands on command, and if they don’t, it shouldn’t be a surprise if they go somewhere else to get it.
Per In Touch Weekly, in a Duggar-focused Reddit thread, one fan made a good point about what could be going on here.
“I can’t help but feel awful for all of the married girls. Courtships are soooo short, I don’t feel like they get a chance to really get to know their husbands. And then they are stuck,” wrote the commenter.
The Duggars don’t casually date, they court – which is dating with the intention of marriage. They are not allowed any physical contact with the person they are courting, must always be chaperoned, and include the parents on all text messages and phone calls.
In other words, it is impossible to get to truly know who they are marrying. Plus, most of the Duggar clan get married in their late teens or early twenties, and the courtships last for just a few months. They are still in the infatuation stage at the time of their engagement and marriage, and it’s not until they walk down the aisle that they get to see what goes on behind closed doors and find out who they really married. That can’t always turn out well.

Another theory is that Dillard’s tweets about adultery were about his brother-in-law, Josh Duggar. It is possible he cheated again, and Dillard was trying to be supportive. He has been hanging out a lot with the disgraced Duggar brother, and the comments could be about his new best friend.
TLC recently fired Dillard from Counting On after his series of homophobic tweets against fellow reality star Jazz Jennings. But, he claims that he quit. Cafe Mom reports that Dillard tweeted that he thought it was best for his family that he cut ties with the network because they are heading in a different direction.
Jill Duggar has not commented on whether or not she will appear on Counting On without her husband.
