Since TLC fired former Counting On star Derick Dillard last fall after a transphobic Twitter rant against transgender teen Jazz Jennings, the criticism against him and his wife, Jill Duggar Dillard, has seemingly intensified. Neither of them can post anything to social media without it getting them in hot water, and Jill’s latest post has done it again.
In an Instagram post meant to be a message of congratulations to her sister Joy-Anna Duggar Forsyth on the birth of her first child, Jill included a hashtag that has got everyone up in arms.
One commenter wrote that they were Hispanic and thought that Jill’s use of the Spanish word “tia” instead of “aunt” was an attempt to seem hip and cool. But, instead, it came across as cultural appropriation.
Another person wrote that Jill and Derick are no longer in Central America, so he is not a papa, and she is not a tia. This is in reference to the fact that the couple served as missionaries for two years in El Salvador before returning to the United States last year for the birth of their second child, Samuel.
It seems a bit hyper-critical to go after Jill for using the word. But her husband has said some abhorrent things in the past on social media, and she has essentially defended Derick’s behavior by standing by him and voluntarily leaving Counting On after TLC fired him, so fans don’t give the couple much slack.
Derick seemingly hasn’t learned his lesson about carefully choosing his words, because this past week he went after the Parkland school shooting survivors on social media. He called them “ridiculous,” and claimed that two networks were using the kids to push their liberal agenda.
The couple has also sparked pregnancy rumors with some of their recent social media activity. In a recent playful pic of Derick and Samuel, fans noticed a bottle of prenatal vitamins sitting on a table in the background.
The Garden of Life brand vitamins in the photo are specifically formulated for the needs of women before conception, during pregnancy, and lactation, according to its website. So, it is possible that Jill is taking them while breastfeeding her 7-month-old.
But, another picture, this time of Jill and Samuel, also had fans talking about a possible baby number three. Jill looked to have a baby bump in the cropped photo, and she included the hashtag #babies, even though she was holding only one of her children. 2-year-old Israel was not in the photo.
The fact that she used the plural while holding only one child has some believing that she was referring to one that was in her tummy.
Many Duggar fans have become obsessed with trying to find pregnancy clues on social media, but the family is very good about making announcements when a little one is on the way.
New episodes of Counting On, without Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar, air on Monday nights on TLC.
