Jessica Simpson Reveals She And Ex-Husband Nick Lachey ‘Weren’t Even Speaking’ Leading Up To Their Divorce

Jessica Simpson revealed that prior to her split from former husband Nick Lachey the two were not even talking to one another anymore! The singer got candid about her personal life in the new tell-all book appropriately titled Open Book, which is expected to drop on February 4!
The star got into detail about her marriage and split from Lackey, among many other aspects of her life.
As you may know, they were one of the most talked about couple at the time due to their series on MTV – Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
Now, the mother of three writes in her memoir that ‘In 1998, when I was just 18, I met Nick Lachey of group 98 Degrees at a Hollywood event. Hi I’m Nick,’ he said. Hello, my life. I thought. Nick loved that I was so strong in my faith and that I had this wide eyed innocent approach to life. When he proposed back in 2002, I said yes.’
It sounds like a fairytale encounter but unfortunately, in the years that followed, it all came crashing down.
Simpson writes that ‘our anxieties about our own careers seemed to feed off each other. We had been together for almost 7 years when I told Nick, ‘I think I want a divorce.’ I later heard he told the press that he was blindsided. I do not know how. At that point in time, we were not even speaking to each other anymore. Maybe he was just shocked I stood up for myself. I do not think he ever thought I’d take the leap.’
The pair shared the news that they were splitting in November of 2005 and in June of the following year, their divorce was finalized.
In an interview from back in 2015, Jessica described their marriage as her ‘biggest financial mistake.’
The reason for that was that she had to pay her ex no less than $12 million in the divorce due to the fact that they hadn’t signed a prenup before tying the knot.
