Jennifer Lopez is revealing why making the film Hustlers was so special to her. The actress experienced a career first on the movie set, putting the film in a class above the rest.
On Sunday, the Latina beauty walked the red carpet at the 11th Annual Governors Awards gala at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. Entertainment Tonight caught up with Lopez at the event, where she discussed working on Hustlers.
It was so special because of the girl power and not just what fans saw onscreen. The flick stars Lopez, Cardi B., Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Madeline Brewwer and Lizzo.
However, Lopez is crediting the behind the scenes girl power with making the movie a truly memorable experience. It also made the success of the film “a little bit sweeter.”
“It had all women producers and a woman director and a woman writer and an all-woman cast, and a woman editor. We really went deep. And you don’t see that often. I’ve made, I don’t know how many movies, 30 or 40 movies in my career, and this was the first time that happened. So, it was a pretty special unicorn event. It’s great that it’s being received in the way it is,” the brunette beauty expressed.
Hustlers has earned a lot of buzz and acclaim for the all-female flick that was a massive success at the box-office. All the positives surrounding the film is proving to Hollywood studio executives that a female starring predominantly women can be a hit.
“It shows we can not only make a good movie, but we can also make a successful movie that makes money. That matters in this business. So that was an amazing thing to be a part of,” Lopez said.
Jennifer Lopez had a career first when she filmed Hustlers, making the film even more special to the long-time actress. She has previously discussed what it was like to learn how to pole dance for the movie, as well as how empowering it was telling the story based on true events.
There could be even more accolades for Hustlers coming up as awards season heats up, something Lopez is gushing over.
“It’s pretty amazing, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was thrilled and excited and overwhelmed,” she said.
