Jennifer Lawrence had to stop reading all of the reviews of her latest film with ex-boyfriend Darren Aronofsky because it became an “unhealthy habit.” According to the 27-year-old actress, typically, she puts the work in and once the film hits theaters, it’s “out of her hands.”
However, when she dated the director, it introduced a new aspect to the making of the film, one which she hasn’t experienced before. As you may know, Aronofsky and Lawrence broke up not long after the release of Darren’s latest movie. Jennifer stated all Darren wanted to talk about was the film; “it’s his baby.”
Lawrence was sick of hearing about it, but she understands his attachment to the film, because like she said, “he wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it.”
She thought to herself, “‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about mother! for one second?'” Jennifer stated that Darren would read some of the reviews of the movie and she began to feel as if it was contributing to a very negative way of thinking.
Lawrence said she doesn’t like to feel defensive, and reading reviews of mother! made her feel in such a way. She said, “it’s nothing that needs to be defended, and if I read a negative review, I just feel defensive.”
J-Law said she wasn’t surprised to hear about the negative perception of the movie, which was awarded an F on Cinemascore.
According to the actress, the entire purpose of mother! was to be divisive. Everyone “is going to feel something.” And indeed everyone did feel something, while that may not be a good thing, considering many critics trashed the film and audiences everywhere were not pleased with the outcome.
However, perhaps it will become a cult classic like many films which are initially hated do.
