It looks like Jared Leto really enjoyed playing a comic book villain in a movie adaptation and now he is venturing to take on yet another such character once again. As you probably already know, the actor and singer played none other than The Joker in Suicide Squad, and now he is also set to star as Morbius in the film with the same name which is part of Sony’s Marvel-based and Spider-Man centric universe.
We have also learned that none other than well known Scandinavian filmmaker Daniel Espinosa will be directing the project.
Meanwhile, the script was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless who also created the Lost in Space remake available on Netflix.
As for the producers, Matt Tolmach, Avi Aran and Lucas Foster will be taking on that job together.
As fans of the comic book series definitely know already, the feature is based on an antihero named Morbius the Living Vampire.
Dr. Michael Morbius is a scientist who is suffering from a really rare blood disease.
The man tries to cure himself but the results are disastrous as he ends up developing a form of vampirism.
Dr. Morbius therefore becomes super strong, has fangs and presents an uncontrollable thirst for blood.
In the original storyline, he fights Spider-Man, but as time went on, he even headlined a few of his own comic book titles.
Morbius first appeared in 1971’s Amazing Spider-Man No. 101 and was created by Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane.
Palak Patel, a Sony executive, is set to oversee the movie’s production for the studio.
Are you excited to watch the film when it comes out? What do you think about Jared Leto portraying the character? Let us know!
