It looks like Jared Leto is getting his own movie revolving around the character from Suicide Squad. According to reports, Warner Brothers and DC Films are looking to delve into their characters from prior films.
Previously, the film studios confirmed Margot Robbie’s upcoming production, Birds Of Prey, which centers around her character, Harley Quinn. However, the companies haven’t released a statement regarding the casting nor a storyline.
This comes after Warner Brothers and DC Films said they were working on another movie with Tod Phillips as the director and Martin Scorsese as the producer. And the studio said previously that Joaquin Phoenix was at the front of the line to portray Joker in another origin-story-movie which will take place outside of the DC universe.
And while many fans of Suicide Squad will be pleased to hear the news, the critical reception of Jared Leto’s “The Joker” was polarizing, with some praising it, and others hating it.
Moreover, the marketing campaign for the film was poorly done, as it focused on Leto’s character when the movie didn’t actually revolve around him.
Even though the critics panned the film as a whole, it still managed to pull in whopping $746.8 million, so clearly, it wasn’t a failure.
And all of the news has actually been very confusing for fans of the series, as there are now two Joker movies in the works. Maybe fans will react positively to one portrayal of the Joker but not the other. As for Phoenix, he has denied claims that he’ll be in the movie several times.
Either way, Phoenix, and Leto both have big shoes to fill after Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The Academy Awards even gave him a posthumous award for his original and wildly entertaining version of the iconoclastic character.
