Janet Jackson Pays Tribute To Brother Michael And Father Joe During Emotional Global Citizen Festival Performance
Janet Jackson was one of the performers at the Global Citizen Festival tonight, and her show was definitely one to remember! Not only did she climb the stage after a barrier fence had fallen down terrifying the crowd due to the loud noise it made, but she also paid tribute to her late family members.
When the barrier fell, the concertgoers panicked and started running away from the stage, fearing that someone was shooting at them.
However, Coldplay’s Chris Martin calmed the crowd down, explaining what had actually happened.
‘Nobody is trying to hurt anybody. You are all safe, OK?’ he said.
He then suggested everyone should enjoy Janet’s performance during which she sang a lot of her hits.
One song, 'What About,' got her emotional, and the singer started crying on stage.
‘I am done with you!’ she yelled as she ended the song, referring to the fact that the lyrics are about getting to have power and control over her own life after years of abuse.
Later on, while performing her and Michael Jackson’s hit ‘Scream,’ she honored her brother by looking up to the sky and shouting: ‘Let's go, Mike!’
As this year the family lost their patriarch, Joe Jackson, as well, while she sang ‘Together Again,’ pictures of the dad and Janet were being shown on the screen.
Still, the legend made sure to give Joe a shout-out as well.
In the middle of the song she once again looked at the sky and said: ‘I miss you. I love you. Both of you.’
‘What I'd give just to hold you close as on earth / In heaven, we will be together, baby (together) / Together again, my baby (together again, baby),’ she went on to sing while smiling brightly.
