Jamie Foxx expressed his deep gratitude towards a very special woman in his life with the occasion of Women’s History Month. He explained that she helped him a lot with picking the right path.
In addition to that, he explained why it is so important for men to ‘listen’ to women and revealed some of his biggest female influences.
Jamie said that one woman, in particular, has really made him what he is today and without her, he probably would not have reached this level of success in his career.
‘My Grandmother,’ Jamie said before going into details: ‘She always instilled in me that no matter where you may go, you have fun. No matter where you go, you make sense and the talent you have been given, do not sit on it. Always keep pushing and listen!’
The actor went on to say that ‘You got to listen. When you get to a certain age, and you think you know everything and…my daughter says, ‘Dad! You cannot wear skinny jeans.’ Just things like that.’
It sounds like Jamie really values the words and opinions of the women in his life, be it his grandma or 24-year-old daughter Corinne.
But aside from the female members of his family, Jamie has a lot of respect for someone else as well, and that is Oprah.
Ahead of the Oscars this year, he opened up about what it means for a man like him to win such an award.
‘It just meant everything. Oprah Winfrey took me over to see Sidney Poitier and Quincy Jones and all the actors who had come before me and did not get the opportunity they probably should have gotten. I know they should’ve gotten the award — it was such a humbling experience to walk to Sidney Poitier. I saw him one time, and his performances grew me into who I’ve become.’
Foxx won an Oscar in the Best Actor category for his role in Ray back in 2004, something that he is still very proud of.
‘To have something like that…that is something you can never replace, regardless of what your career does either before or after that. You cannot replace that type of feeling and that type of excitement, and that’s why people come out to see people enjoy this night!’
