Jada Pinkett Smith Gets Emotional While Discussing Her Late Father's Abusive Tendencies With Her Mom
Jada Pinkett Smith’s fans are used to the star getting candid on her Facebook Watch series, but the latest episode of Red Table Talk was an especially emotional one. The actress talked about domestic violence - her parents’ case in particular.
The star’s mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris was a guest on the episode, and the two women discussed her relationship with Jada’s dad, Robsol Pinkett, Jr., who passed away back in 2010.
According to Adrienne, the man would abuse her physically while drunk quite a lot.
One time, Robsol supposedly even threw Jada’s mother over a banister which left her with a scar on her back!
Jada noted that she was pretty violent as well while drunk and explained that it was why she got sober.
Still, Will Smith’s wife was shocked to hear the extent of the abuse her mother went through at the hands of her father.
‘He gave me a black eye once, and I tried to hide it from Mommy, but she saw it,’ Adrienne recalled, mentioning that her mother had warned her about the man the very first time they met.
‘But I do know when enough gets to be enough, and you gotta get out of there. And I actually ran for my life,’ Adrienne added.
Jada’s mom opened up about the time when her late husband showed up at her parents’ home where she was living with her daughter.
He was enraged and began to hit her. Adrienne got emotional talking about how she ran across the street to a neighbor’s place and screamed for help.
She stayed in the neighbor’s house for a while, mentioning that Robsol would never hurt Jada, so there was no problem she left her behind.
When the police arrived, Adrienne had finally realized their marriage was over.
Jada had only positive things to say about her dad when he was sober, describing him as a ‘gentle soul.’
