Jada Pinkett Confesses Will Smith Was Not A Fan Of Son Jaden Wearing A Skirt In Louis Vuitton Ad

On Jada Pinkett Smith’s latest episode of her Facebook Watch show, titled Red Table Talk the actress opened up once again about her family! She revealed that when their now 19-year-old son Jaden decided to appear in a Louis Vuitton ad rocking a skirt, her husband Will Smith was not so sure it was a good idea.
‘When Jaden got asked to do the women’s campaign for Louis Vuitton, this kind of gender fluid fashion, you know, Will called me. And he is like, ‘Nope. My son isn’t supposed to be in a Louis Vuitton ad wearing skirts. No, no, no, hold up … Is this a good idea?’’
‘Well, you know what, Will? This is what he wants. This is his expression.’ And he said ‘OK, OK.’ But it was tight. He was afraid, it was uncomfortable. Because you know, as dads, expectations … ‘macho, macho,’ you know?’ Jada said.
Speaking of gender roles, their daughter Willow also recalled how Will was not thrilled about her cutting her hair either when she was nine.
‘He told me he did not want me to cut my hair. He was like, ‘Don’t do it. All your femininity!’ As if my femininity was in my hair.’
Of course, Jada had to defend her husband and explained that he only wanted to protect their kids.
‘Willow was nine …and it’s his little girl, and ‘I want you to stay a little girl as long as I can,’ They want you in a place where they can protect you is what I really learned from Will.’
The actress also admitted that these days, she is learning a lot from her children as well about the changing gender norms.
That being said, Willow and Jaden’s unconventional ways are part of how they were ‘born’ and not a result of how they raised them.
‘Jaden and Willow have always been different. They were born this way. A lot of people think it came from my rearing, but no, it just happened that that is how they came into the world and I just had to get in order. I had to be open to receive it. I gave birth to a son I did not know.’
‘Jaden is so sweet. I went through a process, oh my god, what a beautiful child, and then I went to, oh I am fearful he is going into the world, he is going to get eaten up, and after, learning to have that trust in him that, ‘they got it.’’
In a previous episode, Jaden addressed his decision to wear the skirt in that fashion ad, saying he wanted to be an example for other kids on how to think outside the box and be free from bullying because of it.
But he also said that ‘That comes along with it, but like, I wore the skirt so I could look fly. That is why I wore the skirt so that everyone would say, ‘He’s an innovator. His head is in a different place.’’
