Prince William has left his wife, Kate Middleton, behind in the UK this week as he travels to various countries in Africa on official business, and the Duchess of Cambridge is jealous that her husband is going on the trip without her. Prince William is highlighting the conservation efforts on the continent, and he recently revealed that Kate wanted to be in Africa, too.
“I am delighted to be visiting Namibia for the first time. I am only sorry my wife Catherine is not able to join me,” William said during a speech at the British High Commissioner’s reception in Windhoek. “She is immensely jealous, particularly as I am looking forward to a few good, uninterrupted nights of sleep this week away from my wonderful children.”

“I was staggered by the beauty and sheer remoteness of Namibia’s incredible landscape. And I was humbled by the dedication of the rangers who protect the unique population of desert rhino from poachers.” — Following a 5am start, The Duke of Cambridge set off with a dedicated team of rangers in Namibia’s Kunene region to track a black rhino (spotting several other animals along the way) and met members of the Kunene People’s Park, a ground breaking initiative supported by @Tusk_org to provide Namibian communities with greater control and benefits from their wildlife #EndWildlifeCrime
Middleton is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to Prince Louis in April, but she will be returning to her public duties next Tuesday with an appearance at Sayers Croft Trust Forest School and Wildlife Garden at Paddington Recreation Ground.
Both Prince William and Prince Harry have visited Africa on several occasions, but they don’t always bring their spouses. Royal expert Christina Reeves says that William has worked solo as he fights against the illegal wildlife trade. And, Middleton has her own personal projects like perinatal, maternal, and children’s mental health.
Prince Harry has also met with Namibia’s Vice President Nangolo Mbumba over the issue of poaching in the country. He also met with the country’s Minister and Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism. And, Meghan Markle made her first solo public appearance as a Royal this past week, and to mark the occasion she wore a $2,800 dress from the same designer who designed her wedding dress.
As for Middleton, she has mostly remained out of the spotlight since giving birth on April 23rd, only making a handful of public appearances. Last weekend, she attended the wedding of her friend Sophie Carter, who is one of Princess Charlotte’s godparents.
Middleton attended the wedding with Prince William and their two oldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. But, the Royal couple did leave Prince Louis at home.
The Duchess of Cambridge also appeared at Wimbledon and Trooping the Colour in June, as well as the RAF Centenary service in July. And, of course, she was also a guest at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May.
According to The Express, Royal biographer Duncan Larcombe says that it is tradition for new moms in the Royal family to take a six-month break from official engagements after giving birth. But, weddings don’t count because they are “family” affairs.
It hasn’t quite been six months since she gave birth, but Kate Middleton will start to step up her public appearances in the coming weeks. And, she will also attend the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank next month.
