After years of rumors that Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton were trying to expand their family through IVF treatments, the story has now switched. According to a new report, the couple has turned to surrogacy to have a baby.

US Weekly is reporting that Stefani and Shelton are “determined to have a child together,” and they are willing to have a baby in any way possible. An insider claims that the singers are close to finding a surrogate, so they can make Shelton’s dreams of fatherhood a reality.

“Gwen is madly in love with Blake and is open to doing anything to make him feel happy, complete and satisfied — that includes having a child via surrogacy,” claims the insider. “Gwen and Blake have discussed all avenues of growing their family, including adoption, surrogacy, and even traditional pregnancy.”

Since she is 49 years old, a pregnancy for Stefani could be dangerous, but the insider says that the Make Me Like You singer wants Shelton to have the experience of being a parent. So, they are giving surrogacy serious consideration because they believe that could be the best option.

The source also says that the topic of having a baby comes up a lot with Shelton and Stefani, and after watching friends go through the process of having a baby via a surrogate, it is something they want to pursue.

The insider says that Shelton and Stefani are in the final stages of choosing the right woman to carry their baby, and it is “extremely important” to Stefani that she gives Shelton a biological child. However, this doesn’t mean that Shelton isn’t grateful for Stefani’s three sons that she has with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.

Stefani and Rossdale are the parents of Kingston, 12, Zuma, 10, and Apollo, 4, and the boys have become close to Shelton over the past three years during his relationship with their mom. The source claims that Stefani is in awe of the love that Shelton has, not just for her but for the boys.

Shelton has said that it is “so much fun” having the three boys around, and the insider says that The Voice coach is excited about having a child of his own.

Even though the couple is looking for the perfect surrogate, the source claims that the couple is still trying to conceive naturally, despite multiple failed IVF treatments. And, Stefani has reportedly been joking with friends that the couple could end up with two babies at the same time.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have not commented on the surrogacy rumors – but how great would it be if it was true?

Hope this possibility doesn't go the way of Tom/Nicole or Brad/Angelina. Sometimes, it would be refreshing for a child to be born who would not be caught up in ego, narcissm, carlessness or stupidity.

I think it’s terrific to go the surrogate route. I wouldn’t want Gwen having problems with pregnancy. I personally would have died if I had gotten pregnant at 49 years old but that’s just me. More power to Gwen and Blake and I pray all goes well with whatever they end up doing!

I wish Gwen and Blake every happiness and great success. They will be wonderful parents, if that’s what they want. I remember Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban had their second child via surrogate. Anything’s possible with today’s medical technology.
