Hugh Hefner lived life on his terms, and that was especially true when it came to women. The Playboy founder married three times, and in between (and during) those marriages he enjoyed multiple girlfriends, often all at once. However, a new report has surfaced that sheds light on the real reason the 91-year-old married his third wife, Crystal Harris until his death earlier this week.
Harris, 31, a model who was sixty years younger than her late husband, met Hef in 2008 at a Playboy mansion Halloween party where she was dressed as a French maid. The mogul had three girlfriends at the time: Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson, and Bridget Marquardt, who he had been with since 2001. But, it wasn’t long after Harris arrived that the three women moved out and ended their relationships with Hefner.
A romance developed between Harris and Hefner, and by 2010 the couple had announced they were engaged to be married. The date was set for June 18, 2011, but Harris ended up calling off the wedding just days before she was to walk down the aisle.
After a brief separation – filled with quite a few ups and downs – the couple reconciled and a new wedding date was set for December 31, 2012. The couple married in a small ceremony at the Playboy mansion.

Despite their previous troubles and the age difference, the couple stayed together, and Harris stayed by Hef’s side until he died.
However, sources at Radar Online are claiming that love had nothing to do with the marriage. The only reason Hugh Hefner married Harris was that he didn’t want to be alone.
“I understand why he was with her… he didn’t want to end up alone, and he was tired of switching girls,” the source revealed.
Harris was reportedly not listed as an heir in Hefner’s will, but there are supposedly terms in the prenuptial agreement that allows for her to be taken care of upon his death. The source claims that Harris is “sneaky” and will end up with a large part of Hefner’s fortune, which is estimated to be worth over $100 million.
Harris did stay with Hugh Hefner until the end, and he told Esquire in 2013 that he felt fortunate to have found her at that stage of his life. He said that he “saved the best till last.”
