Not a lot of people know this, but Meghan Markle worked as a suitcase model on the set of Deal or No Deal alongside the host, Howie Mandel. It was just a job to get her foot in the door as an actress, and clearly, it ended up working.
During his appearance in an interview with Us Weekly, the host of America’s Got Talent joked, “I think she’s a duchess because of me.”
The 62-year-old comedian said he thinks once a person works with him, “the sky is the limit.” The comic went on to joke that Meghan would’ve married him, but Mandel was married at the time so she couldn’t get him.
The host said, “Harry. Howie? Harry. Can’t have Howie. Harry.” As for if he’s going to the wedding, Howie revealed he never received an invitation.
It came as a surprise to him because he knew the actress quite well. The host went on to say many kinds of things about Markle, including that she was “regal,” “colorblind,” and a “bit of a fashionista.”
All jokes aside, Mandel has been married to Terry Mandel for almost forty years, and he gave some solid advice for people who are about to get married.
The host said the secret to a successful marriage is to live really far apart from each other. He said, “I’m here in New York, and she’s in LA.”
Mandel stated he and his wife have been married for forty years and have maybe spent only two months together in total. Whether he’s joking or not, it might actually be good advice, because as the old saying goes: “distance makes the heart grow fonder.”
