How To Get Away With Murder has been canceled. The Shonda Rhimes show will end after Season 6.
ABC announced the news late Thursday night giving fans plenty of time to adjust to the fact Annalise Keating and her crew will say good-bye. The show was renewed this past spring for a sixth season with a 15-episode order, which is standard for Viola Davis drama.
“Viola Davis made television history with her unforgettable portrayal of iconic female antihero Annalise Keating. I am eternally grateful to her, Pete Nowalk and Shondaland for creating and bringing to life such a smart, sophisticated and groundbreaking series that has long been an integral part of Thursday nights on ABC, “Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment, said in an official statement for the network.

This show has been the ride of my life! I am so proud to have been a part of a team of disrupters. @Petenowalk, @byshondaland, the writers of #HTGAWM thank you for creating a character that could not be defined, someone bold, smart, sexual, messy, flawed, relatable, and complicated …..Thank you for creating a WOMAN. Love to ALL of our fans. And to my co stars, my peers…you are the finest group of actors I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Alright…let's take a well deserved bow 🤛🏿🤛🏿❤️❤️
The final season will follow Keating’s group of students through their last semester of law school. It is the perfect way to set up the final send-off of Asher, Bonnie, Frank, Michaela, Laurel, Connor, and Oliver.
Fans will be pleased to know the last season is expected to full of all the deception, fear, and guilt that has plagued Keating, as well as her students throughout the series.
“Deciding to end this series was a brutal decision, but ultimately, the story tells you what to do as it did here. For me, Annalise Keating’s journey has always had a clear ending. Knowing I have 15 episodes left to finish her story, and the chance to give all the characters their own killer endings, is a gift rarely given to a series creator and I’m grateful to ABC and ABC Studios for the opportunity and creative freedom,” Pete Nowalk, who created the show with Rhimes, said after the news broke.
Shonda Rhimes departed ABC last year for a stellar production deal with Netflix. Nowalk stayed with the network and secured his own deal after her departure.
How To Get Away With Murder is ending after its sixth season. The drama is one of the last two Rhimes shows still airing on ABC.
Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for two more seasons this past May. It continues to be one of the networks highest-rated shows as it heads into its 16th season.
The final season of How To Get Away With Murder will kick off on Thursday, September 26th. Are you sad the drama is coming to an end?
