Hillary Clinton Explains How Former President Bill Clinton Broke The Monica Lewinsky Scandal To Their Daughter, Chelsea
Hillary Clinton is leaving no stone unturned about her life in the new Hulu docu-series, Hillary .
In the latest episode of the series, former President Bill Clinton decided to open up about his massive '90s affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
In the third episode, titled "The Hardest Decision," Hillary opened up about her initial reaction to the sex scandal.
The former Secretary Of State also spoke about how they broke the news of the sexual relationship with Lewinsky to their daughter, Chelsea Clinton.
Hillary said this is how Bill revealed the truth: "Bill came early one morning into the bedroom, and he sat on the side of the bed and said 'I have to tell you something, there's a story that's going to be in the newspaper that, it's about an intern who worked in the White House, claiming I had a relationship with her. I was waking up, and I was having a hard time processing it. I was like, 'What are you talking about? What is this? What do you mean?' He's like, 'There's nothing to it, it's not true, I may have been too nice to her, I may have paid her too much attention, but there was nothing.'"
She added: "He was adamant, and he was convincing to me. If they could make up something, if they could lie about something, they were so partisan, they would do it."
Bill also shared his angle of the story: "I went and sat on the bed and talked to her. I told her exactly what happened when it happened. I said I feel terrible about it. I said, you know, we've been through quite a bit in the last few years. I have no defense, and this is inexcusable what I did."
Hillary went on to speak about how they revealed the affair to their daughter, Chelsea Clinton: "I was just devastated. I can't believe this, and I can't believe you lied. It was horrible, and I said, 'If this is going to be public, you have got to go tell Chelsea. It was just awful, and he just hated to hurt his family. We all bring our baggage to life, and sometimes we do things we shouldn't do, and it was awful what I did."
Both Bill and Hill praised Chelsea for the way she handled herself during this painful time in her family's life.
The parents accompanied Chelsea to therapy together, and a lot of "painful, painful discussions"/ took place, according to Hillary.
