Henry Cavill Compares Approaching A Woman With Rape And Social Media Is Not Happy!
Henry Cavill has enraged many people with his outrageous comments comparing rape to flirting! Check out some reactions.
The Mission Impossible – Fallout actor got a lot of backlash when during an interview he said, in light of the #MeToo movement he now hesitates to approach women due to being afraid he might get accused of 'being a rapist or something.’
One rep for the man later on released a statement to Hollywood Reporter that said he ‘wanted to apologize for any confusion and misunderstanding. Insensitivity was not my intention. In light of this, I'd just like to clarify and confirm that I always have and I will continue to hold women in the highest regard, no matter the type of relationship whether it be friendship, professional, or a significant other.’
Cavill also said that ‘Never would I intend disrespect in any way, shape or form. This experience taught me a valuable lesson as to the context and nuance of editorial liberties. I look forward to clarifying my position in the future towards a subject that is so vitally important and in which I wholeheartedly support.’
The actor also said during his controversial interview that ‘There’s something wonderful about a man chasing a woman. There is a traditional approach to that, which is nice. I think a woman should be wooed, but maybe I’m old-fashioned for thinking that.’
But what he said next was what got him in hot water: ‘It’s very difficult to do if there are certain rules in place.'
'Because then it is like: ‘Well, I do not want to go up and talk to her, because I am going to be called a rapist or something’. So you are like, ‘Forget it, I am going to call a former girlfriend instead, and just go back to a relationship, which never worked.’'
'But it is way safer than casting myself into the fires of hell because I am someone in the public eye, and if I flirt with someone, then who knows what is going to happen?’
‘Now? Now you really can’t pursue someone further than, ‘No’. It’s like, ‘OK, cool’. But then there’s the, ‘Oh why’d you give up?’ And it’s like, ‘Well, because I didn’t want to go to jail?’’
Social media users were quick to respond.
‘Dear Henry Cavill. If you cannot approach and talk to a woman without sexually harassing/raping her, you have SERIOUS ISSUES. #henrycavill #MeToo,’ someone wrote.
‘No #HenryCavill no. Where do I start with not only the exaggeration that you will be accused of sexual harassment for flirting but the issue with your need to want to chase women as it is a ‘nice tradition’ for you, a bit like fox hunting? Women don't need to be chased, we're human not prey,’ another person tweeted.
‘Woe is me #HenryCavill is acting like men are taken down for simply saying ‘morning!’ another mocked.
‘To me...saying to avoid all women because they’ll call you a rapist is so disrespectful to victims who no one believes. It is why so many are afraid to come forward. I do not hate him, but that was in such poor taste. #henrycavill.’
