Amanda Segel, a TV producer, has come out to accuse Bob Weinstein who happens to be Harvey’s brother and business partner of sexually assaulting her.
Segel, who is a writer, sat down with Variety and shared several incidents that occurred in 2016.
Segel, an executive producer on The Mist, told the publication that while she was working with Bob Weinstein on the series, he set up a meeting and he asked everyone in the room if she was single.
She went on to explain that during the dinner, Weinstein made many inappropriate remarks about her personal life.
Weinstein wanted to know if Segel was older than his children because “he did not want to date anyone younger than his daughter.”
Segel told Variety: “No should be enough. After ‘no,’ anybody who has asked you out should just move on. Bob kept referring to me that he wanted to have a friendship. He did not want a friendship. He wanted more than that. My hope is that ‘no’ is enough from now on.”
She went on to say that Weinstein begged her to drop him to his hotel room after the dinner and she refused.
For several weeks, he reached out to her, asked her to go out to dinner and dates, and when she declined, he told her that he could fire her.
A representative for Bob Weinstein denied the story in a statement that read: “Variety’s story about Bob Weinstein is riddled with false and misleading assertions by Ms. Segel, and we have the emails to prove it, but even if you believe what she says it contains not a hint of any inappropriate touching or even any request for such touching. There is no way in the world that Bob Weinstein is guilty of sexual harassment, and even if you believed what this person asserts there is no way it would amount to that.”
Weinstein’s attorney also slammed the report by saying: “Bob Weinstein had dinner with Ms. Segel in LA in June 2016. He denies any claims that he behaved inappropriately at or after the dinner. It is most unfortunate that any such claim has been made.”
Last week, Harvey, who has been accused by over 30 women of assault or rape, was fired from The Weinstein Company — which he co-founded.
It was also announced that the members of the Academy’s board of governors have voted to expel Harvey and remove his membership immediately.
