Actress Emmy Rossum and showrunner Sam Esmail have a lot to be thankful for this year.
In a show of gratitude for all their many blessings and successes, they spent some time at the Los Angeles Mission for an annual Thanksgiving dinner. The event is put on to help the needy and homeless in the area. A hot Thanksgiving Day meal, as well as canned goods, are provided to those who need it.
The 31-year-old actress and her new hubby were married in May of this year. Esmail is known most notably for his highly successful and critically acclaimed TV show, Mr. Robot, which he created and writes.
Rossum has been on the Showtime hit Shameless for 8 seasons which is a bit of a record as many shows don’t see half that many seasons during their duration. She plays the oldest sibling of a dysfunctional family whose father is a raging alcoholic and comes in and out of their lives. Rossum plays more of the maternal role in the show, yet she’s constantly self-destructive.
Though the happy couple is still in the blissful newlywed stage, they are both in different locations a lot of the time due to the filming of their prospective shows. That can be hard to navigate and a heavy weight on a new marriage. Rossum says that they both make a consistent and concerted effort to stay connected.
“We are equally committed to our art and we always have been and to each other. We text multiple times a day, all day long, send little videos back and forth on set and share as much of our lives as we can, so we don’t feel that disconnect,” explained Rossum.
The two have been together since 2013 and make it a goal to never lose sight of how lucky they feel and how grateful they are for one another.
It appears some of that good favor, positivity, and gratitude was something that they wanted to extend to those less fortunate than themselves. With homelessness as an epidemic in certain parts of Los Angeles, their actions at the very least helped to brighten a day.
