Gerard Butler and Jim Sturgess sweep into theaters this weekend with the new science-fiction movie Geostorm. The big budget movie is expected to do well, but it might have some stiff competition with Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween. Still, there are many people excited to watch the PG-13 doomsday movie in theaters this weekend.
Geostorm’s plot focuses on the devastating and apocalyptic effects of climate change that are curtailed with a network of satellites that stave off natural disasters. The satellite system works for approximately two years before disaster strikes.
It is then up to estranged brothers who must work together in order to save the planet from the impending geostorm.
You can watch the official trailer for Geostorm in the video player below. Geostorm opens in theaters on October 20, 2017.
Gerard Butler plays Jake Lawson and Jim Sturgess plays his estranged brother Max Lawson. Abbie Cornish (Limitless) plays Sarah Wilson and Alexandria Maria Lara (Downfall) plays UTE Fassbinder.
Geostorm is the directorial debut for Dean Devlin who also co-wrote and produced the film. Warner Brothers produced and distributed the movie.
Early reviews are praising the cast, cinematography, and movie’s plot. Many are saying they found the movie more emotional than they expected it to be.
Those who have waited to see Geostorm know the movie had an original release date of March 2016. After being pushed ahead multiple times, it is finally set for release in the United States on October 20, 2017.
Estimates put Geostorm’s budget at approximately $120 million. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been a great month for big-budget movies.
Blade Runner 2049 had a budget of $150 million and just reached $157 million worldwide. It appears that October is the month for several small-budget movies to make box-office headlines such as Happy Death Day and Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween.
Though it’s unclear how much Geostorm will ultimately pull in during the opening night as well as this weekend, projections indicate Boo 2! will be the overall winner and should bring in up to $25 million this weekend.e in
Horror movies always do well at Halloween, and this October saw Happy Death Day do extremely well. After Boo 2! comes the newest movie in the Saw franchise Jigsaw.
