The world has been continuing its fight against COVID-19 as the virus has made its way around the globe. Everyone has been doing their part in the struggle against the coronavirus, including celebrities, many of which have donated large sums of money to various relief funds.
George and Amal Clooney joined the list of celebrities who have reached out with monetary support a report from Deadline revealed. The outlet claims the Clooneys donated around $1 million directly toward six different areas in the community.
As for the details, George and Amal donated a quarter-million dollars to the Motion Picture and Television Home, the SAG-AFTRA fund, in addition to the LA Mayor’s coronavirus relief fund. The LA Mayor’s relief fund was revealed earlier in March.
Another $300,000 was provided to several different charities, including the NHS, the Lombardo Italy Region, and the Lebanese Food Bank. According to Deadline, the Motion Picture and Television Fund offers monetary assistance for various coronavirus-related causes, including health insurance, essentials, food, rent, and mental health therapy.
As it was noted above, George and Amal Clooney aren’t the only celebrities to donate food and resources to charity and medical workers. Earlier this year, Cardi B, who was one of the first celebrities to publicly express her concerns about the virus before it made its way to the United States, announced she was donating 20,000 vegan meal replacement drinks to New York City health workers.
Coincidentally, Cardi allegedly was one of the entertainers who cast doubt on the authenticity of the virus and the celebrities claiming they contracted it.
Furthermore, Cody Simpson and Miley Cyrus, who have been dating ever since the singer’s split with Liam Hemsworth, announced they were delivering around 120 tacos to a local hospital to help out healthcare workers who have been working on the frontlines to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
The coronavirus has effected people all over the world and of varying socioeconomic statuses, including entertainers. Some of the biggest names to contract the virus includes Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks, Rachel Matthews, and Idris Elba.
