The final season of Game of Thrones is still a year out from premiering on HBO, but a few stars have been teasing spoilers over the past few weeks — some of which have fans worried that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) might not make it out alive. Will Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) win the Iron Throne while Jon suffers a tragic fate?
Jon has had quite the run over the past few seasons of Game of Thrones. After coming back from the dead in Season 6 and retaking Winterfell from Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), Jon was named King in the North.
In Season 7, Jon teamed up with Daenerys to fight the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and potentially rule Westeros together. Jon and Daenerys are the obvious frontrunners for taking the Iron Throne, even though they are technically related and don’t know it. But there is a small chance that Jon doesn’t make it through the war with the White Walkers alive.

In an interview with Express, Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Daenerys’ right-hand lady and scribe, Missandei, teased that Jon may not be at the Mother of Dragon’s side when she takes the Iron Throne.
In fact, Emmanuel admitted that she doesn’t think Jon could ever rule Westeros and believes that Daenerys should rule the country all by herself.
“As a fan and as a member of the show I want to see my girl on the throne,” Emmanuel explained in the interview. “I want to see Daenerys on the throne.”
That said, Emmanuel also teased her character could get the axe in Season 8. The actress didn’t leak too many details about Missandei’s fate, but she did say that she’s experienced a few breaks in work because she doesn’t have any scenes at the moment. She also added that filming Season 8 has been a blast so far and that she’s excited to see how everything shakes out.
Whatever happens, there is a good chance that Jon and Daenerys do not end up ruling Westeros together. George R.R. Martin is not known for happy endings and will likely gift fans with a bitter-sweet conclusion to the series.
Whether or not that means that Jon is the one who suffers a tragic fate is yet to be seen.
Production for Season 8 of Game of Thrones is expected to continue throughout the summer. The final season will not premiere on HBO until 2019.
