'Game Of Thrones' Season 8 Spoilers: New Fan Theory Reveals How Ned Stark Is Still Alive

Aside from a few exceptions, death is the end of the line for most characters on Game of Thrones . But one fan theory argues that the series is about to bring back a character who met his end all the way back in Season 1. Here’s a look at a theory that says Ned Stark (Sean Bean) is still alive and will return in victorious fashion in Season 8.

Resurrections are nothing new to HBO’s hit fantasy drama. Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is the most notable example of a character returning from certain death.

The Hound (Rory McCann) also came back after being left for dead at the hands of Arya (Maisie Williams) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie). In every example, however, we have yet to see a character get decapitated and come back.

According to Romper , the theory argues that Ned never got decapitated in the first place.

Instead, the ever-cunning Varys (Conleth Hill) got a Faceless Man – likely Syrio (Miltos Yerolemou), who was from Bravvos – to replace Ned while he was in prison. Varys then helped Ned escape King’s Landing while his replacement was decapitated. Ned went into hiding and has been waiting for the right time to reveal himself. (How awesome would that be?)

While we would love to see Ned back in action, there are holes in the theory.

For starters, there are few places in Westeros where Ned could have remained hidden for the past seven seasons without being detected. Sean Bean also revealed that the producers did not ask him back for Season 8.

Unless Bean was just trying to throw everyone off, that pretty much kills any theory of Ned returning. That said, anything can happen on Game of Thrones , so we cannot rule out Ned’s resurrection yet.

HBO just announced that Season 8 of Game of Thrones will premiere in April of 2019.
