Gabrielle Union Reveals Moment When Zaya Wade Felt 'Outed' -- Also Talks Struggle With PTSD
When Zaya Wade came out as transgender to her parents, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union took every step to educate themselves and Zaya to the fullest extent. However, Zaya had made it apparent that she was queer years ago.
While speaking with Taraji Henson on her Facebook Watch series Peace Of Mind With Taraji, Gabrielle revealed that there was a moment that Zaya felt outed and it all has to do with an Instagram photo.
'As Zaya gathered more language, she was able to tell us about her identity. She was able to tell us about her sexuality. She was able to tell us, ‘I’m trans.’ And she says, ‘I’ve come out a few times. I came out to my teacher in third grade, and then when you guys posted that picture of me in Chicago at my birthday party.’ And it’s just Zaya standing next to her cake,' she explained.
Union went on to say that the photo was posted on blogs and 'the comments were guessing as to who Zaya was and why. She said, ‘It felt like I was outed, and I was just standing next to my cake.'
That wasn't the only deep topic the actor discussed. She elaborated about why quarantine has caused her to face her PTSD from being raped in college.
Being in close quarters with her husband is something that has been foreign to her all these years because of their busy schedules.
Now that they've had nothing but time to spend with one another -- she has definitely had to adjust.
'I just feel a little bit more naked, exposed. Because I am just on Zoom with the therapist and I can hear the household, and then the doors open and ... there is not enough space, you know what I mean, and that kind of worries me sometimes. You know when people are like, 'You gotta keep the mystery about yourself. Don't tell him everything.' I'm like, 'Well, s--- then, the pandemic, you got the whole thing.'
Union may touch lives by showing her vulnerable side.
