Brigitte Macron, the First Lady of France had only good things to say about Melania Trump as a person but she also revealed something we were assuming already – the American First Lady is like a prisoner at the White House. Earlier this week, the French President, Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte had an official meeting with the American first couple.
That being said, it looks like the two women hit it off pretty quickly.
Brigitte shared that from her point of view, Melania is ‘actually really fun. We have the same sense of humor. We laugh together a lot.’
So then why doesn’t the public see that fun side of the First Lady?
Apparently, that is the case mainly because she ‘cannot do anything. She cannot even open a window at the White House. She cannot go outside. She is much more constrained than I am. I go out every single day in Paris.’
When Melania does leave the White House, it is for official matters and people always pay attention to her body language just to figure out what she’s really thinking and feeling.
But Brigitte believes that it makes sense that Melania is always so gloom in public settings.
‘Everything’s interpreted, even over-interpreted. She is someone who has a very strong personality but works really hard to hide it. She laughs easily, at everything, but shows it a lot less than I do,’ Brigitte stated, noting that Melania’s ‘really kind, charming, intelligent and open.’
The French First Lady admitted that although she has more freedom than her American counterpart, being the wife of a country leader is not easy.
‘I need to be careful what I say. I have the impression that each word is a word too many, I am constantly holding myself back. That is the hardest part: there is never really any time off, never a moment when you can be completely calm.’
