Between their reality show and various business ventures, Chip and Joanna Gaines are very busy individuals – but that doesn’t mean they are bad parents. The Fixer Upper stars recently fired back after a writer slammed them for putting their careers ahead of their children. Not only did they set the record straight about the bad parenting claims, but they also extended a special invite to the writer and his family.
This past April, a writer for USA Today bashed Chip and Joanna for not putting their family first. Daryl Austin wrote that Chip and Joanna cannot possibly prioritize their family first when they have so much going on in their professional lives.
Although Austin praised the couple for their outward commitment to family values, he cautioned fans that Chip and Joanna probably don’t have enough time to spend with their kids.

In response to the article, Chip took to Twitter to fire back at Austin’s article. The Fixer Upper star assured fans that he would stop everything in order to address a family need, if the situation ever came to that.
“But for the record: If there is ever a need w/ my family (1st), I’ll shut this circus down so fast it will make your head spin,” Chip wrote on Twitter, adding that that he has an amazing family and wife.
After Chip’s response on social media, Austin wrote another article apologizing to the couple. The writer confessed that he wishes he didn’t write the article in the first place and did not intend to hurt Chip or Joanna.
According to Entertainment Weekly, he also contacted Chip and Joanna and asked for their forgiveness, which prompted a special invite from the Fixer Upper couple.
Chip and Joanna accepted Austin’s apology and offered him a free stay at one of their popular rentals in Waco, Texas. The pair gave Austin and his family an opportunity to stay at either Magnolia House or Hillcrest Estate, which are two of their most popular destinations.
Austin ultimately turned down the offer because he didn’t feel right having them pay for everything. But he did promise to visit Waco in the near future and get a firsthand look at what they’re all about.
Chip and Joanna Gaines are coming off the end of their hit series on HGTV, Fixer Upper. The two decided to end their run in order to spend more time with their growing family. The pair had baby no. 5 last month.
