A five-year-old boy who remains hospitalized after losing his mother and two sisters in the Texas church shooting is asking for Christmas cards. Ryland Ward’s femur was shattered and he suffered kidney damage when on November 5, 2017, Devin Patrick Kelly entered the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs and opened fire. Ryland’s mother, Joann Ward was killed. According to reports, she threw herself as a shield on top of her four children: Rhianna (9), Emily (7), Brooke (5), and Ryland (5). Emily and Brooke were killed. Ryland remains in the hospital after undergoing multiple surgeries. He is expected to be hospitalized for an additional two months.
According to the terrifying report, Joann Ward threw herself on top of her children, yet Kelly continued shooting to try and kill her children. Ryland Ward was shot between three and five times as there are mixed reports concerning the number of gunshot wounds he suffered. Some reports say he was shot four times while others say it was five. Rhianna miraculously escaped the shooting.
Ryland Ward had just begun kindergarten at the time of the shooting.
Sandy Ward was told that when her daughter-in-law was found inside the church, she was holding her 5-year-old daughter, who'd also been killed. https://t.co/a7VkG4EuTx

Celebrities and fans immediately responded to the request and shared their support for Ryland. It’s likely that people will contribute other items, but for the record, all that’s being asked for are cards and pictures of kids with pets. Many people will likely send letters to Ryland as well.
There is a Go Fund Me account for Ryland’s uncle where he provides updates on each of the survivors. The fundraiser has a goal of $100,000 and is currently up to approximately $68,500.
