Erika Christensen Gets Candid About Her Link To The Church Of Scientology

Erika Christensen was a guest on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard, and she took this opportunity to open up about her being linked to Scientology ever since childhood. Here’s what the Parenthood star had to say!
‘It’s hard to raise someone as a Scientologist because it is something that you do, it isn’t something you believe. My parents are definitely Scientologists, approached parenting from a Scientology viewpoint. I can see that in the way they approached me as a kid and tried to do what I am doing now, which is trying to temper absolutely necessary discipline and rules and structure with fostering independent thought and freedom of personality. It has to be true for you,’ the star told Shepard.
‘I want to consider that I’m always driving towards my best self,’ Erika added.
She also claimed that her mom and dad never forced her to go to church.
That being said, they did share their beliefs with her and asked her to at least check the faith out.
‘I was a kid, I was like sounds cool to me, fine. When I was 12, I started doing a bunch of the little introductory courses they still have now that are maybe a few hours each,’ she continued.
As you may be aware, the Church of Scientology is very controversial and usually criticized due to people like Leah Remini who is actively trying to expose the cult for how destructive it is.
Asked if she ever watches programs such as Leah Remini’s Scientology and the Aftermath or Going Clear, Erika said: ‘It honestly does not have anything to do with…anything that I have ever learned about the group or organization. To be specific about [Going Clear], if someone has read a book, read Dianetics or some Scientology book and wants to philosophically tell me what they disagree with, cool.’
She went on: ‘That’s a totally different thing. But specifically with the documentary, the documentary was based on a book. The book wasn’t even published in some English-speaking countries because the libel laws are stricter than they are here. There is so much that’s actually…talking about sources. They’ve proved themselves to be irrelevant…There is no relevance in what they are saying.’
