Eric Trump made some news during an interview with Gayle King that aired Thursday night on CBS. The 33-year-old businessman said that his mother, Ivana Trump, will be present at the inauguration of the 45th U.S. president on Friday. Donald Trump was married to Ivana for 14 years from 1977 to 1992, and they had three children together. However, their divorce was a very messy affair that dominated tabloids after Mr. Trump was caught cheating with a former model named Marla Maples.
The media revisited those explosive details during the 2016 presidential election campaign including accusations of mental and physical abuse on the politician’s part.
The press even dissected a “rape” allegation that was taken from a book, but the former fashion model said she did not mean it literally. Moreover, the world will never know some of the most damaging things that happened in this marriage because of the existence of a confidentiality agreement between the two parties. Donald and Ivana were able to have a better relationship over the years.
The socialite mostly stayed quiet during the campaign, but she was very supportive of the father of her children behind closed doors. According to some insiders, she told her ex-husband to be calmer and more gentle. This is a piece of advice that he did not always follow.
Eric Trump, who will be handling his father’s businesses during his presidency, had this to say about his mother’s presence at the big event: “Well, my mom will be there front and center. She is the most supportive person. I have the greatest mom in the world. She is tough and she is strong and she is elegant. She can be outspoken at well. She’s great. She’s larger than life.”
When talking about his childhood, he added: “She was a disciplinarian to us as children. We had manners and we opened doors and we said please. She’s an amazing person and we truly love her. I have amazing parents and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
Ivana Trump is also the mother of Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr.
