We may see Ellen DeGeneres make headlines on a daily basis, but it’s been approximately 15 years since you’ve seen her do stand-up comedy. That’s about to change as DeGeneres announced on Tuesday that the beloved talk-show host, actress, and comedienne will head a new stand-up special titled Relatable.
There’s a new generation that are fans of Ellen’s coming to know her through her daily, syndicated talk show but has never had the opportunity to watch her do stand-up unless it’s decades-old reruns.
Here is how Ellen made the announcement as she kicked off Season 16 of Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“I mentioned that I worked a lot over the summer. What I did was I went back to stand-up. I didn’t do stand-up for 15 years and I decided… I just all of a sudden was like I miss stand-up, I want to do it. So I made a deal with Netflix. And I was working on stand-up all summer. I taped it in Seattle. This is the Benaroya Hall where I was. It was so much fun. I loved it so much. The audiences were great, Seattle was great.
Thank you, everybody, in San Francisco and San Diego.”

It didn’t take long for Netflix to go public with the exciting news and fans were delighted to hear about Ellen’s return to stand-up.
One fan pointed out that with all of Ellen’s great news it would be a great time for NBC to line her up to host Saturday Night Live (SNL). Ellen did host SNL once in 2001, but some fans feel that now with the award-winning Kate McKinnon on the show, many would like to see Ellen and Kate go head-to-head.
In addition to comedy, acting, and hosting her own television show, Ellen DeGeneres has found success with A Very Good Production, Inc. her production company. She currently produces the hit ABC show Splitting Up Together and Ellen: Game of Games.
In addition to Ellen’s upcoming Netflix stand-up special, she is currently producing a number of movies including Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, Too Close to Home, Jekyll, and Sing You Home.
Are you looking forward to Ellen DeGeneres’ new stand-up special Relatable? It airs on Netflix on Dec. 18, 2018.
