Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia De Rossi, had to leave with their pets from their home in California due to a looming wildfire in the area. This past week, a fire has ravaged southern California and damaged many properties.
Reportedly, Ellen and Portia own many dogs and cats which they take care of in their $18.6 million beachfront house in Carpinteria which is close to Santa Barbara. They bought it back in October of 2016.
The Thomas Fire has caused the evacuation of thousands of people in California as well as road closures and warnings of toxic air quality in Santa Barbara and Ventura County.
DeGeneres tweeted today, Sunday, December 10th, that their “house is under threat of being burned” and they had to leave with their pets.
Ellen wrote that she is “praying for everyone in our community” and is “thankful to all the incredible firefighters.” In a report from the CAL FIRE website, the fire started on the 4th of December and had ravaged around 173,000 acres.
This morning, the state officials ordered mandatory evacuations around de Rossi’s and DeGeneres’ home. Additionally, other celebrities have had to leave the area.
According to E! Online, the fire took parts of the Montecito area, which is the home to people like Oprah Winfrey. However, at the moment, no one knows if she has been affected.
The Thomas Fire has taken center stage in the American media at the moment. And while it’s certainly a tragedy to see the evacuations of many homes, some social media users on, presumably, the East Coast have rejoiced in the wildfires, comparable to West Coasters who were happy that hurricanes took out the Trump states of Florida and Texas.
