Childish Gambino, AKA Donald Glover, commenced his This Is America tour in Atlanta this weekend while at the Infinite Energy Arena, and the Community star revealed that this would be his last tour with the Childish Gambino title. Glover said to the audience that it was the “last Gambino tour ever,” and it’s not a “concert,” it’s a “f*cking church.”
Even though Donald excepts to drop his name, some people think that he’ll continue using the moniker, because he’s spoken about dropping it before but never actually got around to doing it.
Glover, earlier in the year, explained that he would be eliminating the Gambino name sometime soon for future album releases, and added that he would begin releasing art under a new identity.
During a press conference, the singer said that he likes endings, and it’s important to continue progressing. During the final weekend of the summer, Gambino release another video, Feels Like Summer, which featured many different cameos.
While it wasn’t quite as political as his last video for This Is America, this new one was almost as viral, considering all of the different celebrity allusions he employed.
In the video, Gambino had a bunch of different stars appear in cartoon form, including Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott, Drake, Pusha T, Will Smith, 21 Savage, Lil Pump, and more.
Additionally, there was a funny scene featuring Solange and ASAP Rocky tugging a rope with The Weeknd, the singer from Toronto, Canada.
And perhaps most famously, the video depicted an image of Kanye West wearing his Make America Great Again hat, where he broke down on tears only to be consoled by Michelle Obama. In the video, Childish Gambino strolls down the street in what looks like a black neighborhood, listening to music and looking around, enjoying the final days of the season.
