Camila Cabello is brushing aside those pesky rumors that Taylor Swift was the primary reason for her leaving of the girl-group, Fifth Harmony. The 21-year-old singer sat down with Dan Wootton on the 15th of March and stomped out her fans’ speculation once and for all.
As many people know, Swift and Cabello have become good friends over the last few years, leading people to believe that Taylor had something to do with her exit from the band back in 2016.
Cabello, during the interview, said no one could inspire her to do something like that, it’s a choice she made of her own volition. According to the “Havana” singer, she’s a natural contrarian, the type of person that does the opposite of what everyone wants from her.
She added, “I’ve always been that way.” Following her departure from the band, Cabello said the rumors bothered her as if they stripped away some of her agency as an independent woman.
Moreover, the fact that people probably attacked Taylor online for the rumors “bothered her,” because she’s protective of her friends.
Taylor and Cabello rarely discuss business when they’re together. According to Camila, when they hang out, they mostly talk about boys and love, and how to go about getting what they want.
In the summer of 2015, Cabello and Shawn Mendes release track together called, “I Know What I Did Last Summer,” and because of its release, fans began preparing for her departure from the group.
Cabello said it was a “one-off song” and had no plans of leaving her band at the time. The singer claimed she and Shawn wrote the song and didn’t want to give it away to anyone and she decided to leave Fifth Harmony shortly after.
