Fans of Real Housewives of New York City watched last season as Carole Radziwill and Bethenny Frankel’s friendship fell apart. But, that did not stop Radziwill from reaching out to Frankel after the sudden death of her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Dennis Shields.
“I did [it] the old-fashioned way. I wrote a handwritten note,” Radziwill revealed while at GoldBar in New York City for the anniversary celebration of Evine After Dark, a sex and intimacy show on the Evine shopping network.
Radziwill — who announced in July that she was leaving RHONY after six seasons on the show — said that the Skinnygirl mogul didn’t reply to her note, but she completely understands why.

“There’s no reason to respond back,” Radziwill told Us Weekly. “I remember when my husband [Anthony Radziwill] passed away. I really appreciated people who wrote. Email was around, but not necessarily texting. But to get a note in the mail was really nice, and there’s no pressure to respond to that.”
Even though Radziwill and Frankel aren’t on the best of terms, the journalist and author says that she wants nothing but the best for her former bestie, and she wishes her well. She added that she knows Frankel went through a difficult time, and she knows what it is like and doesn’t wish it on anyone.
Shields died on August 10th from a suspected prescription drug overdose in his apartment at Trump Tower in New York City. The 51-year-old had known Frankel for thirty years, and the two had dated off and on since 2016. Insiders say that he even proposed to her back in April.
Shortly after Shields died, Carole Radziwill tweeted a message of condolences to his family and friends, and called his passing “tragic.”
As for Frankel, in the weeks since Shields’ death, she has been opening up to fans about how it has affected her. After she recently posted a pic of herself in a long-sleeved ruffle dress, a fan noted that Frankel looked thinner. Frankel responded that “death will do that to a person,” and added the hashtag #griefdiet. She then wrote that she doesn’t recommend it.
After she helped with relief efforts following Hurricane Florence, Frankel went to the Bahamas. And she has been spending her time remembering Shields. Bethenny Frankel told Us Weekly that he would have loved being on vacation and listening to the Commodores hit Sail On. But now, he’s the one sailing on.
New episodes of the Real Housewives of New York City will return to Bravo next spring.
