As you may already know, the designer claimed that Meghan Markle’s wedding dress looked pretty similar to one that is part of her own collection! Emilia Wickstead noticed that the custom-made Givenchy gown the new Duchess wore at her royal wedding to Prince Harry looked familiar.
‘Her dress is identical to one of our dresses. Apparently, a lot of commentators were saying, ‘It’s an Emilia Wickstead dress,’ she told Daily Mail.
In addition to that, she also slammed the dress’ poor fitting saying: ‘If you choose a simple design the fit should be perfect. Her wedding dress was quite loose.’
Finally, the wedding hairstyle Meghan sported was also not up to the designer’s standards.
‘I was like, ‘Hold the wisps [of her hair] back — it’s a Royal Wedding for God’s sake.’’
But following the Daily Mail report and the quotes that were circulated in the media Emilia Wickstead has responded, claiming she was ‘saddened’ by the reporting.
Last night, the designer took to social media to write: ‘I am extremely saddened by the commentary that has emerged in the press and online over the past couple of days. Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Sussex, looked utterly beautiful on her royal wedding day and have the utmost admiration and respect for her.’
‘I do not think her wedding dress was a copy of any of our designs. I have the highest respect for Clare Waight Keller and the House of Givenchy, a huge source of inspiration to me,’ she went on.
Finally, the designer concluded: ‘I wish The Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex an amazing, happy and love filled life together, Emilia.’
