Fans of Demi Lovato are still recovering from the shocking news that the singer ended up in the hospital last week because of a drug overdose, but the people closest to her knew that something wasn’t right. The day before the overdose, Lovato was working out with Danielle Martin -- her Jiu-Jitsu trainer --  and she says that Lovato “wasn’t herself.”

“I’m devastated,” Martin told Radar Online . “I’m very close to her.”

She went on to reveal that she has been training with Lovato for the past two years, but she noticed that “something was absent in her spirit” when the two met up the day before the overdose. Lovato said that she was tired, and she did ask about meeting up the next day, which is when she ended up in the hospital.  Martin says fans can imagine how she felt when she found about Lovato’s overdose.

The last thing the Sorry Not Sorry singer said to Martin was “I love you so much.”

Lovato was obviously proud of her work with Martin and has shared her Jiu-Jitsu achievements on Instagram over the past few months. Back in January, she told fans that she was no longer wearing a white belt and had moved past beginner status and earned her blue belt.

Last year, Lovato said in an interview that she got into Jiu-Jitsu because she loved watching people grapple. She also thought it was cool to learn something that helped with self-defense. The 25-year-old also revealed that she can get bored doing an hour of cardio, and she likes to train MMA because it is fresh, new, and keeps things exciting.

Dani Vitale, Lovato’s friend and backup dancer, says that angry fans have targeted her on social media for being a bad influence on the singer. But, she is speaking up about Lovato’s hospitalization, saying that she cares about Lovato just like her fans do.

She added that she hasn’t said anything about the situation because Lovato’s recovery is top priority. Vitale also said that she wasn’t with Lovato when she overdosed, but she is with her now and will continue to stay by her side because she means the world to her.

Lovato and Vitale have been friends for years, and Vitale’s social media is filled with pics of the two women together, and sometimes they are on stage performing. She says that there is no need for any negativity towards people who care for Lovato, and there is too much of that in the world as it is.

Insiders say that Demi Lovato’s family and her former boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama have been by her side in the hospital while she recovers.
