Love yourself, girl! Demi Lovato stopped by Ellen’s show today, and she opened up about her road to self-acceptance and the power that can give people. Demi is no longer at the emotional mercy of her haters – she is free of wanting to impress and win them over!
‘I have been working on myself for the past year, more so than I have ever worked on myself. I have really surrendered to the process of learning to love yourself, and I feel it shows through my pictures. I post more bathing suit pictures online. I want to show my fans that it is possible to get to that self-love too,’ the singer explained.
So, I’m insecure about my legs in this picture but I’m posting it because I look so happy and this year I’ve decided I’m letting go of my perfectionism and embracing freedom from self criticism. Learning to love my body the way it is is challenging but life changing. Giving up my eating disorder has been the most challenging journey of my life but I work every day towards solid recovery even if I mess up sometimes. Today I’m feeling strong. You all can do it too. It IS possible. Thank you God for this new chapter in my life. #EDrecovery #happyAF
As fans may remember, it was not long ago when the star decided to share a photo featuring herself rocking a swimsuit that seemed quite out of her comfort zone.
The pic made headlines, and while there’s no way to avoid body shaming as a celeb and a woman, most people were inspired to be proud of the way they look and were empowered through her!
Demi went more in depth about how the pic came to be online.
‘I was very hesitant about posting it because I did not love my legs in it. I decided to post it anyway because I thought, ‘You know what, it is me, it is who I am and I love my body, so I am going to post it.’ I have taken away the power from the negative comments and the haters by not listening to them, and if I see it, I feel sorry for them, because who leaves a negative comment on somebody’s profile on the internet? You have to be quite sad to do that.’
What a great role model she is for millions of young girls and women everywhere! Wouldn’t you agree?
