Demi Lovato is glad she left the Met Gala in 2016 to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. During an interview for the latest issue of Billboard Magazine, the singer opened up about walking the red carpet at the Met Gala for the first and probably her last time.
Fans will remember when Demi took to the carpet wearing Moschino alongside the designer Jeremy Scott; the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer appeared to be unfazed. However, after photos of Nicki Minaj looking at her with contempt surfaced online, fans realized there might have been some drama that night.
Lovato, in an Instagram post, wrote that the photograph perfectly sums up her experience at the Met Gala. She added, “that the shade being thrown in this picture gives me life.”
Two years later, when speaking with Billboard, the 25-year-old claimed she had a “terrible experience,” and one celebrity at the Met Gala was a complete “b*tch,” in addition to the whole thing being “very cliquey.”
Lovato said the entire night was so stressful and unbecoming that she felt she needed to leave right away because she feared a relapse.
The singer went right to a meeting at Alcoholics Anonymous with her diamonds and everything, but she did change her clothing.
Demi went on to offer a brutal critique of the Gala, stating, essentially, that the ceremony is merely for “fake” people who are “sucking the fashion industry’s d*ck.”
And while many people would refrain from telling such a story to the public, Demi has become an unrestrained person, saying it how it is whenever she deems fit. Lovato explained her honesty holds herself accountable because if she drinks, fans will see her at the club and know she’s failed at her goal.
