During a brand new interview with Sharon Stone for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Debra Messing opened up about a pretty awkward incident in her acting career. The Will and Grace star remembered that during one of her very first jobs in the industry, the execs required her to totally change her look to the point of having to fake her breast size!
The 49-year-old actress recalled how ‘I had to wear fake boobs when I first started in Hollywood on my first sitcom. They gave me cutlets and I had just graduated with my masters from NYU from acting and I was like, ‘I’m an actress!’ and they were like, ‘here.’ ‘I look stupid.’ I was like, ‘I am not going to wear these,’ and they go, ‘The president of the network called us and said he wants you to wear those.’
‘I was in shock. I was new to this industry and just thought I could not say no, you know…Now, no one comes at me with these things. I’m like, ‘I am flat-chested, I love it,’ she added.
Stone also opened up about something similar that she went through as a female in Hollywood.
She recalled that once, she was quite widely criticized for wearing pants and not a dress in a movie when she was required to sit ‘like a lady.’
The actresses have been pretty vocal about the struggles of women in the industry.
Messing is a big supporter of Time’s Up initiative as well.
At the Golden Globes, she told ET: ‘The last three months have been so harrowing, with all the brave whistleblowers telling their stories, and we have all wanted to say, ‘How can we make a difference?’ And now we have the incredible Time’s Up initiative, this movement that is rolling out. Change is here. That’s it. We’re done with discrimination. We want diversity and intersectional gender parity and equal pay. This is the second wave.’
