Daniel Radcliffe Gets Candid About Dealing With 'Harry Potter' Fame As A Teen And Having Drinking Problems As A Result
It looks like barely any child stars manage to grow up without dealing with all kinds of issues stemming from their fame. That being said, Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe admitted that he dealt with addiction like many others, in his teens!
During an interview for Off Camera With Sam Jones, Radcliffe, who is now 29 years old, got candid about coping with fame by using alcohol!
He confessed that ‘There is an awareness I really struggled with, especially in my late teens when I was going out for the first time to places where you'd feel — it could have all been in my head — watched when you went to a bar, when you went into a pub.’
Daniel went on to explain that ‘In my case, the quickest way to forget about being watched was to get really drunk. Then as you get very drunk, you become aware, ‘Oh, people are watching more now because now I am getting drunk, so I should probably drink more to ignore that more.’ It can affect your psyche.’
Apparently, it took him a few years to get rid of that way of thinking.
The actor recalled that he did it all on his own, saying that one morning, he just realized it was not healthy for him and stopped drinking so much.
He does not miss that period in his life at all and is much happier today, although Radcliffe realizes it may be different for others who have also gone through something similar.
The most important part, however, is that he never regretted being ‘Harry Potter.’
Radcliffe made sure to stress that he loved his job very much and never drank on set.
