Cynthia Bailey Admits Be Called 'Boring' Hurts Her -- Speaks On The Bigger Issue At Hand With The Way Black Women Are Portrayed On Reality TV
Cynthia Bailey is known to turn into 50 Cynt when you cross her but otherwise, she is a relatively chill ray of sunshine on a cast of ladies who aren't afraid to go at it. This is why she receives criticism that she's 'boring.'
However, Cynthia has managed to keep her peach for quite some time. Love, marriage, divorce, businesses, parenting, and more have all been a part of her storylines.
Unfortunately, some people believe that she should be demoted to a friend of the show or her peach should be replaced because of her chill demeanor.
She recently spoke with Refinery 29 where she admitted that the criticism does hurt her.
'Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but if you’re for uplifting the culture, then you need to be for uplifting the culture. If you are, you can’t say that someone who’s trying to represent Black women in a positive light is boring. That’s very reckless of you to think if you stand on our side.'
It's definitely part of a bigger problem that happens within the TV business. Black reality stars are often portrayed as loud, confrontational, and problematic -- especially Black women.
Bailey went on to speak about the issue: 'I have a responsibility to the culture to be a positive representation of what we look like. I can only do me, and I’m always going to be accountable for what I do on the show. I believe that we can make an entertaining show that’s not negative. It’s really hurtful when your own people are the ones saying that you’re boring because you don’t want to turn up and act a fool just for the sake of being a fool.'
Lucky for Bailey she has secured her peach for yet another season. It's almost certain that her new storyline would be the challenges of planning a 10-10-20 wedding amid the COVID-19 era.
