Less than two months after Josiah Duggar announced he was courting Lauren Swanson, the couple has shared the news that they are taking the next step in their relationship and is engaged to be married. With everything happening so fast, could there be a shotgun wedding in the works?
In a joint interview with US Weekly, Duggar and Swanson revealed how he popped the question.
“The place where I proposed to Lauren is the exact spot where her parents were engaged. There’s a lot of family history on this property, making it a special place for Lauren,” said Duggar.

I feel like the most blessed guy on earth 🌎… Lauren said YES! God definitely opened our eyes in his perfect timing to show us how we complete each other. The more time I spend with Lauren the more I realize how I can't live without her. There's no one else I'd rather spend my days and grow old with! #engaged #weddingplanningbegins
Swanson said that she is excited to be marrying Duggar, and everything about the proposal was special. She added that she is looking forward to spending the rest of her life with the 21-year-old.
The couple is excited to bring two great families together for their big day, and they say it will take a lot of planning because both of them have so many relatives.
An engagement is usually a guarantee once a Duggar announces a courtship, but not for Josiah. He courted Marjorie Jackson a couple of years ago, but they abruptly ended their relationship without explanation. Fans are excited that he had better luck this time around.
The couple hasn’t released any wedding details yet, but it is a safe bet that it will take place in a church and they will have at least 1,000 guests.
With the engagement coming so quickly, people are keeping an eye on just how soon the wedding takes place. The sooner it happens, the more likely it is that shotgun wedding rumors will fly.
When Josiah’s sister Joy-Anna Duggar got engaged to Austin Forsyth, and then they moved their wedding date to just a few weeks after the proposal, many fans believed they had gotten pregnant while engaged and had a shotgun wedding.
But, when Joy-Anna gave birth to her son Gideon Martyn last week, she proved her skeptics wrong, because her baby arrived 39 weeks after she walked down the aisle. It turned out, she got pregnant on her honeymoon.
Even if it isn’t a shotgun wedding, chances are that as soon as Josiah and Swanson say “I do” a pregnancy announcement won’t be far behind.
Like Joy-Anna and her husband, Joseph Duggar and his wife Kendra Caldwell announced they were expecting their first baby just weeks after tying the knot in September of last year.
